Racism and the Church:Exploring Solutions

Join us for Part 2 of this discussion-

  1. Hi Gary
Well,it is good to know that we are on our way to finding means to the problems of Racism in our culture and sociaty/ies.
I will be discuessing how this can really work,it will take lots of work and spiritual commitments and the churches must take the lead.we must focus on Action groups who will take the messages to the people,if it means going to schools, homes, community workshops, and also through social interactions, starting with peers
    groups.
    Thanks
    Isaac(PMC)

  2. Living Rock Ministries (a 21-year-old resource centre and ministry for street-involved and youth-at-risk) is working on a few projects with New Canadians in the Core of Hamilton. 1) Back to School Campaign: Keep Going! Don’t Stop! inspired by Simon Mach and the Sudanese community. This is a network working to inspire youth-at-risk to stay in school and to address barriers to school participation. (That is why I was looking at who gets the backpacks being sponsored through TrueCity.)
    2) Safety in the Core with Urban Core, Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion, Youth Anti-Abuse Project and others. New Canadians are placed in the core but may not know safety and self-protection strategies. A youth from Somalia was hit with racial slurs by an adult male. He was in a coma 3 days and requires re-constructive surgery on his face. With youth working together, we hope to build relationship and maybe a “train the trainer” strategy for youth to inspire youth related to safety and school.
